First Official Camping Trip!

Memorial Day weekend we decided to be brave and take our first real camping trip as a family. It was actually our famil friends the Whetstones who suggested the idea, and I am so glad they did. It was their last hurrah before their baby was born. I figured if Karen could camp 9 months pregnant than surely I could handle camping with 3 kids. We had a blast! Sunday after church we ate a "picnic" lunch inside while it was raining and tried to decide if we were going to go ahead as planned. The kids were WAY to excited for us to give up that easily. Luckily, as we drove the sun came out and by the time we arrived at Quiver River it was quite hot.

Here are the kids unloading our firewood from the minivan.

Titus of course had to help too.
Setting up camp. We divided up the meal responsibilities between families. Our crew was in charge of dinner & late night snacks. For dinner we roasted corn on the cob and made hobo packs on the fire. They turned out great. That evening we took a walk to a play ground and then went to a "Bird Show" in the state park which ended up being a slide show. Grace loved it, but we didn't last too long with the little ones.
That night we made popcorn over the fire and let the kids watch a movie in the tent.
After the movie we let the kids make smores before finally making them go to bed at 10 p.m. After the kids were in bed we sat around the fire and visited for a bit, but were too tired to stay up much later.

Here is us in front of the two room tent we slept in. We don't actually have our own tent yet, but luckily the Whetstones had an extra we could borrow.

Grace took this for us.
Karen's friendship has been one of God's greatest blessings in my life this past year. She is such an amazing friend and our families love spending time together.
After lunch the next day we packed up to head home. Everyone was exhausted and we all agreed one night was all our young families could handle. But on the way home our kids were already asking when we could go camping again.
