Thanksgiving Activities

The Thursday before Thanksgiving our play group did some Thanksgiving themed activities.
Here Grace is adding feathers to our turkey.
We did a water table with a "gravy" theme. The kids had fun playing in the water with ladels, measuring cups, & even a turkey baster.
We did a thankfulness tree where the kids traced their hand and then wrote something they were thankful for. Grace really got into this one. She made most of the "hands" pictured.
We moved to a bigger room because our group has been growing.
The craft project was making a place setting. The girls loved this and we ended up with at least 4 of them...

Titus gets in on the action playing with our "Mayflower" (a.k.a. Little People Pirate Ship)
Laurie did a GREAT job with the planning! We also had a fun snack mix with different items that taught about Thanksgiving like marsh mellows (snowy winter), goldfish (Indian taught to fish), pretzels (praying hands), Trix (berries), and candy corn (Indians taught to grow corn).

1st Annual Holst Cattle Sale

Thanks to Holst Creative Touch for these pictures!
This November my brother & his wife Erin held their 1st Annual Holst Cattle Sale. For those of you unfamiliar with the cattle business that is a big deal. So our whole family was there to support them. It was a very cold and windy day, so when we got there super early it was pretty empty. I spent most of the morning keeping an eye on the kids while I prayed over and over again that God would prompt every cattle man in the tristate area to come! And he did answer. A good size crowd arrived just in time for the sale and it went great for a first sale. I was so nervous for them and so proud of them all at the same time. Here are some of my favorite pictures from the day.
The auction gets going.
Dad & Cody checking on the cattle.
Even my Mom-o and Grandma came for the sale.
Faith sporting Papa's Sullivan & Son Auction Hat

The girls enjoyed playing with Roxie while we waited.

The Whole Gang

Thanks you God for blessing us with such a amazing family & a great first sale!

Grocery Store Tour

Sampling holiday grapes in the produce department.
Watching the baker airbrush some cupcakes.
A hairnet and pumpkin fluff from the deli.
Checking out the pig face in the ground pork at the meat counter.
One of the walk-in coolers.
Running in and out of the freezer.
They are saying, "Grocery Store Tour!"

Last week was a bit crazy at our house....just a bit! I hosted a Pampered Chef Party. Being a hostess is definitely on the list of things that was WAY easier before we had children. However, I love my kids and I still love hosting even if it is a lot more work. (I just only love it like a few time a year now) Kristina came on Wednesday night and we were able to do a few things while the kids slept including visit uniterupted (which is always nice) Thursday Kristina cooked lots of yummy food while I did dishes, cleaned, and kept the kids occupied.

For playgroup we were going on a grocery store tour. So, while Kristina cooked and the babies slept I took Grace, Sadie, & Faith to the tour. They really enjoyed it. At each area of the grocery store we visited they got to eat something. So, they had lots of treats. Fresh grapes in the produce section, pumpkin fluff in the deli, a bite of brat from the meat counter, cheesestick in the dairy section, a "received" stamp at the unloading dock, and a warm chocolate chip cookie from the bakery. It was a very yummy tour- thanks County Market!

A Bit of Blog Housekeeping

So I have once again been on a bit of a "blogging" spree, trying to get caught up on all the things we have been up to. So, if you don't want to miss any of the fascinating details of our lives keep going back until you hit my post on The Magic House. You might also have missed these older posts I finally completed.

So, I feel like lately my posts have been a lot more about what we are doing and a lot less about how I am seeing God in our everyday lives. I think that is mainly due to two reasons.

1. I have declared this year- THE YEAR OF FUN! I am starting to see how Grace going to school next year is really going to change how we do life around here. No more mid week road trips, fun activities during the day with all three kids, etc. And I am completely dreading it! So, I have decided to seize every opportunity to make memories and totally enjoy it while it lasts. (For those of you who are quick to offer the advantages of school age children I'm not interested in listening right now- but come Labor Day I will call you. I will be the crying one you can't quite understand. Take pity on me, even though you tried to tell me...)

2. Don't worry we aren't just having a big party and too busy to see what God is doing. God has totally had our family under construction this past year and he is really cleaning house, so to speak. Our revival this fall was on repentance, dealing with anger, and lots of other similar "popular" topics. (that was said with a bit of sarcasm if you didn't catch it) It really hit home... It led Jeremy and I to a 12 week Bible study to apply what God was challenging us with. And God isn't done yet. I hope to share in the future all we are learning, but for now we are still in the super personal processing stage.

But, for now I wanted to share a teaching moment the Lord brought me in a very unexpected way. Last week I hosted a Pampered Chef party. My friend Heather came and it was the first time she had been to our home. At one point she shared that her and her husband had looked at our house in 2006. Her husband really wanted this house, but he was leaving on a 2 week mission trip to China. So they decided to wait until he returned and if the house was still on the market they would put in an offer. When he returned the house was sold, and they were a bit disappointed. Well, we were the family that bought "their" house. I have shared many many times how the Lord "hand picked" this house for our family. It was in a much safer, quieter neighborhood than our price range normally afforded. It had a finished basement perfect for entertaining the youth group, it had a swing set included, etc. It was priced just above our firm price range, but the sellers had already bought another house motivating them to sell. We were able to purchase it for just the right price for our budget. If there had been another offer it just wouldn't have worked.

My family's blessing was another family's disappointment. I'm so thankful God brought Heather and I together in friendship so I could have this teachable moment. The next time something happens and God's plan isn't my plan I am going to remember my "disappointment" could be another family's special blessing, their answered prayer. Just another reminder its just not all about me and my family. God's plans are so much bigger than that.

Jake & Jo Jo Visit

Earlier this month my sister Josie and her boyfriend Jake came to stay with us for the weekend. We always love when they come. We didn't do anything big, mostly just spent time together. On Saturday Josie went to dinner with Regan so we got to see her for a bit. Regan is one of our all grown up girls from youth group- and we love getting to see her too. Saturday afternoon Josie needed to work on some photography homework so we drove around Hannibal looking for things she could take pictures of. I had been wanting to take a picture of the Grace St. sign for awhile so I enlisted her help, I am hoping to make this into something artistic for Gracie.
I love how in this one you can see the church in the background.
Then we went up to Lover's Leap to take some pictures. You can't really tell in the photo but both of the girls have their cameras too.

This is an old gas station Jeremy and I have always loved. I think Josie ended up using one of her photos of this for her project.
That weekend was also the P3 conference at our church. My job was to make a room look like 3 girls' bedrooms and then switch it over to 3 boys' bedrooms. It was a big project...but fun. I ended up being a bit short on help due to illness and was VERY thankful Josie & Jake jumped in to help. They are always so helpful!!

We ended Saturday night watching a documentary on Disney World. I'm not sure the boys were too excited, but us girls loved it. We are saving to go to Disney in 5 years & have invited our family to come along. Josie is totally on board!

Grocery Store Activities

I got to plan a grocery store themed play group at the beginning of November. It was a lot of fun and a bit crazy!

I finally brought some toys and my "fence" to set up a baby area- this worked a lot better.
My friend Karen had the great idea to bring aluminum foil to make the conveyer belt.

I brought store ads for the kids to cut out items to make their own shopping list. Grace had several things of ice cream on hers.
I am so thankful for our playgroup!
