L is for Lincoln?

The other day I was reading this book to Grace. She picked it out last time we were at the library. When she choose it I thought, "Great. We are from Illinois and I would love for her to learn more about our state." I got to about letter F when she said, "This book isn't really answering my questions about magic." At first I was so confused! Then I remembered she wanted to get a book on how to do magic tricks..... I asked, "Did you think the man on the cover of this book was a magician?" I flipped to the cover of the book. Yeah, I totally get how she thought this was a book about magic. From my perspective I just saw Abraham Lincoln. But, when I looked at it through her eyes I could totally see a magician.

This was such a powerful illustration to me of something I am working through in my relationship with God right now. Through the circumstances of my life I have started to doubt my ability to discern God's direction in my life. I'm so afraid I can't see past my own selfish desires to see his leading. My desires are so plain, so engrained I don't want to miss God's perspective. But, I also know God doesn't want to hide from me. If I ask and seek I know God will show me things through his viewpoint. Because just like Grace had a totally different perspective I know God sees my life in a much different way.

Trunk or Treat

Our family was excited to once again be able to be involved with Trunk or Treat. (Remember last year I had H1N1- not fun!) We borrowed the big orange truck for our family's "trunk." We had an Illini theme (in Missouri that is considered creative or at least different) Our van was actually loaned to another family in order to be decorated like a Dalmatian. Jeremy, Titus, & I wore our Illini gear. The girls choose to wear their cowgirl costumes. It was a VERY cold night!!!
The best picture of our family...

Grace loved handing out our treats. We gave away small prizes instead of candy. She wouldn't even leave to go around the circle at first. But, after her sister returned with candy she was convinced. She was so afraid someone would come to our trunk while she was gone and she would miss out on her job. We filled the back of the truck with blankets so the kids could snuggle in since it was so chilly.

Holst Halloween Party

Every year at Halloween Grandma Holst hosts a Halloween party. It has been several years since we have been able to go. This year it worked out for us to attend which also meant I had my Mom available to take these amazing pics of my kids in their costumes.

"Trick or Treating" at Grandma's door.
Faith watching for Uncle Cody to arrive.
Titus eats...I means opens his Halloween bucket.
Papa helps Faith open her surprises.
My grandma has been making homemade salsa, pizza, & spaghetti sauce with tomatoes from the farm. I got to choose some to take home for our family. This was my favorite part! I LOVED the black bean and corn salsa.
